New woodworking classes scheduled for July and August

Vashon Makerspace has scheduled two new classes for July and August

 

Introduction to Woodworking

This hands-on class will cover basic woodworking techniques and safe operation of commonly used portable and stationary power tools. Students will learn steps of woodworking procedure, cost estimation, planing, jointing, ripping, crosscutting, and dado joint construction. Related topics will include hardware and fastener applications and wood finishing techniques. Students will construct a step stool and a small box; or similar projects. Project materials are included in the course fee. Instructor Erik Mortensen has years of experience as a contractor and community college instructor
Tuesday evenings 6:30 – 8:30, July 17th to August 21st (6 sessions – 12 hours), Fee $150, Class limited to 6 adults (age 18+), Location: Vashon High School Woodshop

Open Shop Woodworking

Supervised access to a fully equipped woodworking shop. Instructor will be available for consultation and instruction on an individual basis.  Instructor Erik Mortensen has years of experience as a contractor and community college instructor. Students must have previously taken an introductory woodworking course that included training on safe operation of table saw, jointer, planer, power miter saw, band saw, and router/router table. Students will be required to demonstrate safe operation of each of the above named tools. Students should bring a complete set of plans with drawings, steps of procedure, and bill of materials to the first class session. Thursday evenings 6:30 – 8:30, July 19th to August 23rd (6 sessions – 12 hours), Fee $135, Class limited to 6 adults (age 18+), Location: Vashon High School Woodshop
