Six session course emphasizing “old world craftsperson” skills. Limited power tools usage.

A one day class in carving a wooden spoon from a green wood blank.

Woodworking Router Seminars
Half-day classes presenting uses of the router, from basic operations to a variety of special fixtures that extend the capabilities of this versatile machine.

Woodworking Basics: An Introduction to the Craft

Ages: 14-Adult (students under 18 must register with a parent or guardian also taking the class)
Dates: Mondays, Oct 13-Nov 17 | 6:30-8:45 pm
Instructor: Erik Mortensen
Tuition: $300 (includes $25 materials fee)
Location: Vashon High School Woodshop, Room 1105
Build a step stool—and your woodworking confidence—in this hands-on introductory course. You’ll learn essential woodworking techniques and gain practical experience with safe machine tool operation, laying a solid foundation for future projects and classes. *Registration Deadline Oct 10th

Build a Mid-Century Bookcase with an Arts & Crafts Flair

Ages: 14-Adult (students under 18 must register with a parent or guardian also taking the class)

Prerequisite: Intro to Woodworking class with Erik Mortensen or Kevin Grayum, or by instructor permission

Advance your woodworking skills and complete a beautiful, functional piece.
Take your woodworking to the next level by building a Mid-Century bookcase inspired by the timeless aesthetics of the Arts and Crafts movement. In this hands-on class, you’ll start with rough lumber and learn to mill, cut, and join each component with precision and care.
Through expert instruction and step-by-step guidance, you’ll gain confidence in:
- Project planning and layout
- Using hand and power tools effectively
- Traditional joinery techniques
- Finishing and assembly
By the end of the course, you’ll leave with a completed bookcase and a strong grasp of the full woodworking workflow—skills that will empower you to take on more advanced projects independently.
Prerequisite: Intro to Woodworking with Erik Mortensen or Kevin Grayum, or instructor approval.
